Apple puree, which many mothers and fathers use as a snack, is very popular today. Food poisoning was observed in most children who consumed ready-made applesauce in the USA. As a result of the FDA’s investigation on the subject, 200 times more lead than normal was found in applesauce due to the high lead levels in cinnamon imported from Ecuador.
It was known that children who ate apple puree were poisoned, showing symptoms such as headache, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US stated that applesauce-related illnesses have been reported in children aged 1 to 3 years, and at least one child had a blood lead level eight times higher than the normal level.

As a result of the congress research in 2021, it was found that baby foods contained high levels of arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury.
To find a solution to this situation, the FDA attempted to prepare a draft containing guidelines for the food industry. In an interview with NBC News, an FDA official stated that the guidelines should be completed by the beginning of 2025, and that even if the directive has not been issued yet, the FDA can take regulatory actions on products it deems unsafe.
It is thought that the law to be created after the directive may also cover baby foods in Turkey.
