There is corona chaos in the Swedish national skiing team.
Frida Karlsson is selected for this weekend’s competitions – but is now advised to stop.
– You have to be very careful, says Anders Blomquist to SVT.
There were great Swedish successes during the World Cup premiere in Ruka. On the women’s side, Swedish skaters won all three races, and there were a total of five Swedish women on the podium. The next leg of the World Cup is at home in Gällivare.
The national team’s covid chaos
But then there are many regular riders who are forced to stand over. After the races in Ruka, several Swedes have tested positive for covid. On the women’s side it is Jonna Sundling and Lynn Svahn as ill, and they will not participate in Gällivare. Also Frida Karlsson have tested positive, but have no symptoms. She has therefore been selected for the squad and can compete if she gets a negative test before the races.

On the men’s side it is William Poromaa who returned a positive sample. The 23-year-old broke this weekend’s 20 kilometer distance race with a bad feeling, which turned out to be something. He will not start in Gällivare. Instead, among other things, 17-year-olds get the super talent Alvar Myhlback the chance in the World Cup for the first time.
Karlsson & Poromaa
SVT’s length expert Anders Blomquist is horrified that Poromaa competed sick.
– That he competes with corona in his body is not good, now he didn’t know about it so he had no choice, and extremely unfortunate. The good thing is that he can cure ribs and a cold at the same time. The important thing now is not to incur any long-term problems due to the corona, which can sit for a very long time. He really has to rest it there, says Blomquist to SVT.

The former national team skater hopes that Frida Karlsson will do the same.
– If she has no symptoms, then maybe you can take a chance, but my experience is that if you have a cold virus in your body, you have to be very careful as an elite athlete. It often costs more than what you can get out of it, often it doesn’t turn out to be a good race and you risk having long-term problems instead. If she is completely symptom-free, it might be a small risk. But I think she should rest, says Blomquist to the channel’s website.
