A TV series adaptation of the popular Post-Apocalyptic video game series is coming to Amazon Prime Video. So, what does the Fallout series mean to us?
post-apocalyptic While there are many movies, books, and comics set in worlds, few are as unique as the ’50s-influenced Fallout games. Prime Video offers this unique perspective Fallout TV Series is getting ready to bring it to television and will do this with the help of the people who make the games. Even though we don’t know the series very well yet, what we have learned makes us very excited to explore the nuclear ruins again.

The world of the Fallout games is an interesting world where we develop robots and nuclear-powered cars in the art-deco style of the 1950s. (There were moments when I felt like a space scavenger.) However, with the production of the atomic bomb, the world learned firsthand that a nuclear war could destroy the planet in 2077 . It’s a good thing that bomb shelters were given priority in the 1950s, so some people managed to survive in underground shelters called “Vaults”.

In most of the games, many years have passed since the bombs fell; We know it’s between 25 and 200 years old, depending on the games developed. The rest of the world is in ruins, filled with mutants, giant insects, zombie Ghouls, and other irradiated feral creatures. But there are also normal people, including the Brotherhood of Steel, a widespread military organization that wears armor similar to the armor Tony Stark wore in the Iron Man movie. (These armors are called Power Suits.)
The Fallout series will take place in the Los Angeles state in a similar time period as the games. Bethesda Game Studios‘s game director Todd Howard (producer of Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter) shared the details with us on August 23. However, Howard somewhat let slip which game the series is concurrent with (Fallout 76 takes place 25 years after the bombs fell, Fallout 4 takes place 185 years after that).
Howard also showed us some footage from the series, including a simulated moment when nuclear bombs hit Los Angeles, but the footage hasn’t been released (officially) yet.
Can Those Who Don’t Play the Game Watch the TV Series?
“This isn’t a retelling of a game story. Let’s take an area on the map. Let’s tell a story in this world, without breaking any rules, referencing things mentioned in the games, but not being a retelling of the games,” Howard said in an interview last year. “It exists in the same world, but it’s its own unique thing, so it adds to that. Also, people who can’t play the games, who can’t experience how insanely cool Fallout is, can watch the series.”
Who are the Creators of the Fallout Series?
For the Fallout series, Amazon Studios appointed Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, whom we know from their work on HBO’s Westworld TV series. The duo wrote the series through their company, Kilter Films, and serve as executive producers. Their roles were the same in Westworld. (It was a very enjoyable series to watch, the Fallout series already made us excited.)
Actors and Their Roles
Despite being a new story, it’s clear that Prime Video has designed Fallout to include the core elements of the games. MacLachlan’s character Overseer Hank places the series on familiar ground by suggesting that the series will begin in Vault 33. The presence of Ghouls and the Brotherhood of Steel also ensures that the series has a familiar texture. Official character descriptions offer further insight:
Ella Purnell, portrays the character “Lucy”. Lucy is an optimistic Vault Dweller and has an American can-do spirit. His peaceful and idealistic nature is tested when he encounters people who harm those he loves.
Aaron MotenHe plays the character “Maximus”. A young soldier hides his tragic past while serving in a militaristic faction called the Brotherhood of Steel. He believes in the nobility of the Brotherhood of Steel’s mission to bring order and law to the Ruins, and is willing to do anything to achieve their goals.
Walton GogginsHe plays the character “Ghoul”. Ghoul survives in the ruins as a Bounty Hunter. She is pragmatic, ruthless and hides a mysterious past.
Kyle MacLachlanHe plays the character “Overseer Hank”. Hank is the Overseer of Vault 33 and Lucy’s father. He is a very enthusiastic character to make the world a better place.
In any case, from what we know so far, Prime Video’s adaptation will attempt to capture the essence of Bethesda’s hugely popular RPG series.
