Gloomy economy – fewer municipalities give Christmas presents this year

If you work at Hofors, Knivsta or Höör municipality, the employer plot will not be available this year. In the TV4 Nyheternas survey, 25 percent of the municipalities answer that there will be no applause, and 7 percent answer “don’t know”.

Twelve municipalities that gave a pat last year will not do so this year, and 19 say they will give a lower amount. Several municipalities refer to the difficult financial situation.

Exchanging Christmas food for gift cards

In the municipality of Alingsås, they have chosen to exchange the Christmas plate for a gift card of SEK 500 which can be used for shopping in the local shops.

– We think it is better that you get a gift card so you can do what you think is appropriate. And it goes back to the Alingsås trade so it’s a win-win, says Daniel Filipsson (M), chairman of the municipal board.

– It is very appreciated by everyone who works, so you know that you are appreciated by your managers and those you work with, says Karin Martén, animal keeper at Alingsås municipality.

A third gives Christmas dinner

There will also be fewer Christmas tables. Just under a third of the municipalities have planned a Christmas table or Christmas plate for the staff.

Of the country’s 290 municipalities, 215 responded to the TV4 News survey.
