Jenna Ortega is currently one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood. Filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the hugely successful Twilight films, also knows this. Like Harry Potter, Twilight is also being rebooted as a series and Hardwicke has an idea who can fill the shoes of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

The Twilight book and film series is worth millions and one of the most successful fantasy franchises at all. The five films have grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide. It’s no wonder that the brand should live on. So far it is only known that the story is being revived by author Stephenie Meyer – as a series. It is not yet known who we will admire as Bella and Edward. What is clear, however, is that Stewart and Pattinson will not be returning.

Director Catherine Hardwicke directed the actors Stewart and Pattinson, who were still unknown at the beginning of the Twilight films. Hardwicke knows the roles of Bella and Edward inside and out and has a good sense of who can embody her. In an interview with Hardwicke on the Watch-a-long podcast, the names Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth) come up:
[Jacob Elordi] is fantastic. He would probably be Edward these days. […] I think there are a lot of really cool young actors today. You just mentioned someone else: Jenna Ortega is amazing.
Hardwicke had pushed hard for Robert Pattinson in the original Twilight casting, even though the studio was suspicious. With that she has demonstrated a good hand. So we can trust her with Ortega and Elordi.

Jenna Ortega has been at the latest since her starring role Wednesday Addams on everyone’s lips in Tim Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday. Season 2 is already being planned. Ortega became known as a teenager in Mittendrin and No Escape and was most recently present in the cinema in the Scream series, among others.
Jacob Elordi is not quite as well-known as Jenna Ortega, but avid Netflix fans know him too. He appeared in all three parts of the The Kissing Booth trilogy as Noah Flynn. From January 4, 2024 he can be seen in cinemas as Elvis in Sophia Coppola’s Priscilla.

Whether Ortega and Elordi will actually be considered for the new Twilight series is unknown. It may well be that, as with films, lesser-known actors are cast.
