The injury situation has been unclear regarding Sanni Hakala after she was taken away by ambulance in connection with the match last Friday.
The 26-year-old collided with the goal cage and was lying on the ice. On Sunday, the club announced that she underwent surgery for the neck injuries she sustained.
“The surgeons at the hospital announce that the operation went well and that a long period of rehabilitation awaits Sanni, something she now needs to focus on in peace,” HV71 writes on its website.
Furthermore, they write:
“She has great support from her relatives and representatives from the club and thanks for all the warmth she has received from the entire hockey family”.
The match between HV71 and Djurgården had to be abandoned. Sanni Hakala has played for the Finnish national team and has two Olympic bronzes, two WC bronzes and a WC silver on the merit list.
