Sweden Democrats member of parliament Sven-Olof Sällström is battling severe cancer. The doctors gave him a prognosis that he could live another 1.5 years if the chemotherapy worked.

– And now there are nine months left, he tells SVT Nyheter during SD’s country days in Västerås.

Sällström has decided to leave the position as deputy chairman of the Riksdag’s defense committee next week.

It started as bile duct cancer and it has since spread to the liver. The doctors therefore make the assessment that it is not possible to operate or carry out a transplant.

Sällström tells Expressen that he has come to terms with the verdict but that he is distressed by the fact that he probably won’t get to experience Ukraine’s victory over Russia.

Sällström is a professional officer and has long pushed the issue of Sweden joining NATO.
