According to People’s Daily, the test satellite called “Space-Based Internet Satellite Demonstration” was launched from the Xicang Satellite Center in Sichuan province with a Long March 2D rocket.
After the launch, the satellite settled into its planned orbital position, and this became the 498th successful transport mission carried out with the Long March rocket.
It is estimated that the satellite, developed and produced by the Microsatellite Innovation Academy (IAMCAS) affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will be used to test orbital technologies to be used for China’s planned national internet constellation network “Guovang”.
CHINA’S STARLINK SIMILAR PROJECT: GUOVANG
Within the scope of the Guovang project, which aims to create a constellation network similar to the Starlink internet satellite network of the US space technology company SpaceX, 12 thousand 992 satellites are planned to be positioned in Low Earth Orbit.
IAMCAS will be the prime contractor with China Aerospace Technology and Science Corporation (CASC) in developing the satellites for the project. (AA)
