Oscar Pistorius was a big profile during his active time as a sprinter. He participated in the Paralympic Games as well as the Olympic Games for South Africa. Both of his legs were amputated below the knees and Pistorius ran with prosthetics.
In 2013, the sprinter was arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He denied the murder charges but in September 2014 Pistorius was convicted of murder. In 2015, South Africa’s Supreme Court overturned the verdict and he was found guilty of murder. In 2017, the sentence was extended from six years to 13.5 years.
Last spring, his request for parole was denied, but today it has been approved. On January 5, 2024, he is allowed to leave the prison in Pretoria.
Pistorius was sentenced in 2014 to five years in prison for a crime that, translated into Swedish law, is between murder and aggravated assault. But later the classification was tightened to murder and then the prison sentence was also extended to 13 years.
