The Court of Appeal toughens the sentence for the 25-year-old man convicted of a torture-like murder in Ånge. He is now sentenced to 18 years in prison instead of the 16 years that was the sentence in the district court, local media reports.

In December 2019, a young man was murdered in his home in Ånge in Västernorrland County.

The man had been taped around his face, neck, hands and feet. He was then left on the floor with a t-shirt over his head and suffocated to death.

The course of events has been described as protracted and with torture-like elements.

The now convicted man fled abroad after the murder and was only arrested in January this year.

An accomplice of his was sentenced in 2020 to nine years in prison.
