the opponent Cabral Libii challenged by one of the founders

Two years before the presidential election in Cameroon, a stone in Cabral Libii’s shoe. The opponent and deputy is preparing a congress of the party he leads, the PCRN, for next month in Kribi, with his sights set on the next elections: municipal, legislative and presidential, scheduled for 2025. At the last local elections in 2020 , his party won five parliamentary seats, seven municipalities. But the historic founder of the PCRN – the man named Robert Kona – says he now wants to “recover his party”. And for this, he summons seven people, including Cabral Libii, to court in the Far North region.

Robert Kona wants to cancel the Guidiguis congress of May 11, 2019, in the Far North region, during which Cabral Libii was appointed president of the PCRN, the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation.

At the time, Cabral Libii, declared third in the 2018 presidential election behind President Paul Biya and Maurice Kamto, failed to legalize his party “Les Citoyens”. And he can no longer count on Prosper Nkou Mvondo’s UNIVERSE party. Cabral Libii is therefore looking for political training.

Robert Kona is a retired civil administrator. This former member of the Cameroonian single party, the UNC (Cameroonian National Union), who became an early activist in the RDPC (Cameroonian People’s Democratic Rally) co-founded, notably with Albert Fleury Massardine, the PCRN in 2001, then managed to have it legalized. in 2003.

But the party is dormant, with no real militant activity; no ordinary party congress, for example, was organized under the presidency of Robert Kona. In 2019, in Guidiguis, Robert Kona agreed to “leave” the presidency of his party to Cabral Libii and he became honorary national president.

Today, Robert Kona accuses Cabral Libii of having abandoned him. “ I am not consulted in certain decisions to be made and above all, we do not call each other regularly, since last December, we have not called each other. »

In December 2022, during the Ngaoundere congress in the Adamaoua region, a commission ad hoc is created by the PCRN. She is responsible for launching a project to build a house for the founding fathers of the party, Albert Fleury Massardine and Robert Kona.

Stupefaction

Why this approach by Robert Kona and why now? At first, Cabral Libii said he felt “ amazement “. “ There is nothing to suggest that the PCRN so far is misdirected. If we compare the PCRN that I found in May 2019 which had no activists apart from the founding fathers, between this PCRN which now has five deputies, 206 municipal councilors and 7 municipalities, but it is obvious that the PCRN, in terms of performance, is doing better than before “.

The court of first instance of the department of Mayo-Kani, in Kaele, summons Cabral Libii and six other people on January 4, 2024 at 7:30 a.m.

Robert Kona declares that if he succeeds in regaining the presidency of his party “ by legal means “, he will organize a new congress to be designated president of the PCRN ” not who wants, but who can “. He explains having informed several RDPC elites, the majority party, from the Far North, and more particularly from the Far North, of his legal action. He mentions, in particular, the president of the Cameroonian National Assembly and the president of the Economic and Social Council. Robert Kona assures that, for him, his party must remain an opposition party.

Faced with this legal action brought by his elder, Cabral Libii, in the midst of preparations for the Kribi congress (in the South region, from December 15 to 17), says he now wants to stay the course: “ We are more concerned with completing the network and preparing the vote monitoring systems for the elections which are fast approaching. My mind has no more time to devote to conjectures about what might be hidden behind this or that. I fundamentally believe in God and I believe that time will reveal to us what is behind it. »

The current secretary general of the PCRN, Boubakari Massardine, son of the other founder of the PCRN, Albert Fleury Massardine, sees in the announced legal action a desire to break the dynamic of the party as the congress and the electoral deadlines approach. 2025. He assures that exchanges with the man he calls “Papa Kona” are regular and that he will visit him soon.
