Norway is shrinking.
Now three Swedish brothers will get to take over the Norwegian land.
– I just found out actually. I didn’t know that the stream had taken a different path, says Magnus Andreasson.
Grötesbobäcken in Dalsland, which marks the border between Sweden and Norway, has changed direction and thus Sweden becomes 500 square meters larger.
The landowner on the Norwegian side, Ole Anker-Rasch, took the matter in stride when interviewed by NRK.
– This is an unproductive bog and also a protected area. Neither Norway nor Sweden will benefit financially from give or take, Anker-Rasch said.
Who will take over in Sweden?
One man’s death is another man’s bread, as the saying goes.
If a Norwegian loses ground on one side, there should reasonably be someone who receives it on the other side. But when Aftonbladet contacts Lantmäteriet, it is not something that is thought through.
– Haha, yes, we haven’t contacted them yet, we should actually do that. I must have looked up his name at some point but forgot it. But it is of course interesting for him to know, says Dan Norin, geodetic expert at the Land Survey and secretary of the Swedish National Border Commission.

Not one – but three
Later on Thursday morning, Dan Norin will return. It is not just one landowner but three brothers – Magnus, Jakob and Martin Andreasson – who will take over the Norwegian area.
When Aftonbladet contacts one of the brothers, Magnus Andreasson, he has just received the message. Their land at the Norwegian border in the municipality of Dals-Ed will be larger.
I understand that you will get a piece of Norway? How does it feel?
– Well, no, but it will be fine. I just found out actually. I didn’t know the stream had taken another path.
The current landowner in Norway says it’s a pretty worthless piece of land?
– Haha, yes, I don’t think we’ll make any profit from it.
But so far they cannot plant a Swedish flag on the field. First, the new border must be approved by both countries’ foreign ministries. Something Dan Norin hopes can happen at the end of 2024. Then the brothers can enter their new properties without their passports in their back pockets.
Do you have any grand plans for the land?
– It is far from motorways. So if you have to be realistic, it has no practical value. It becomes more of a fun thing. Maybe we can build a lookout tower.
