No Turkish yes to NATO before the summit

Turkey will not approve Sweden’s NATO application before the defense alliance’s foreign ministers’ meeting next week. It reports Reuters on his website with reference to his own sources.

According to the sources, Turkey should have informed NATO about this on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, the Turkish parliament’s foreign affairs committee was supposed to vote on Sweden’s NATO application, but after a long and lively debate, the decision was postponed.

Instead, the committee is expected to continue the debate on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, according to Reuters sources.

The vote in the foreign affairs committee is an important step on the way to full membership in NATO for Sweden.

If there is a yes there, the matter goes on to the great chamber of the parliament and then the protocol must be signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Hungary will not take up the Swedish NATO application for ratification next week. This is what the Hungarian Member of Parliament Àgnes Vadai writes to TT.

The issue of approving Swedish membership is not on the parliament’s agenda.

Hungary and Turkey are the NATO countries that have not yet approved Sweden. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has previously said that the country will not be the last to ratify the application.
