In the women’s Korisliiga, ToPo overthrew Honga with a broken wing with crushing superiority.
The top team of the Women’s Basketball League, Torpan Pojat, got their eighth win of the season when they beat Honga on their home court with a staggering 59-point difference, 91–32 (50-9).
Honka fell from ToPo’s ice already in the opening episode. The home team was in a class of its own both offensively and defensively. At half time Kotijohto had already 41 points.
ToPo’s lead also increased in the second half and the home team convincingly grabbed the series points.
Honga, second in the series, has lacked a standard rotation in the last two league games after the international break Tayanna Jones and Emma Ristola. The team from Espoo has now lost within four days today to ToPo and last Saturday to Forssa Alu by a total of 80 points.
Honga’s head coach acted on Wednesday Reetta Piipariwho succeeded the sick first coach Niko Nyholmia.
– We were never ready to play. A few misses at the beginning and the heads quickly went down after that and never came back up. I wasn’t there today except physically, Piipari worried to the Basket.fi website.
The Helsinki team succeeded in the evening’s game on a wide front. Ilmar’I Thomas put together a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Taru Tuukkanen (16/8/7s) managed so comfortably. Strangers Cierra Walker bagged 12 points.
ToPo’s coach Niko Kuusi said that the team implemented the game plan prepared for it throughout the game.
– The opponent was missing their best player (Jones), but that doesn’t take away the value of our win and the amount of work that went into it. We succeeded in what we tried to take away from the opponent. I give the team a nine, says Kuusi.
