Hash is sold and smoked openly in cafes. Family life is valued. But a red light district is located in the center of the largest city and is a major tourist attraction. It is a city with some of the world’s top art museums. But it also has a forgiving attitude towards pornography. Complicated. Contradictions. That should make it Europe’s most impossible country. But just today (Wednesday 22 November) it shows – despite all its prerequisites being “wrong” – that it is also the continent’s most normal.
