A man attacked his ex and her mother with a knife in Gothenburg.
The murderer died from his injuries.
The man claimed he did it in self-defense, according to reports.
During the night of Saturday, the police were alerted to an apartment building on Hisingen in Gothenburg.
There, a 45-year-old man had attacked with a knife a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 30s – the man’s former mother-in-law and ex, according to Aftonbladet’s information.
– All three have a close relationship with each other. The two women are related, says prosecutor Åsa Nilsson, who leads the investigation.
Both women were taken to hospital after the attack, but the older woman died from her injuries. The man’s ex is being treated for serious injuries.
– The other woman is seriously injured, but it is no longer life-threatening, says Åsa Nilsson.
Details: Claimed self-defense
The man is said to have appeared at the home earlier in the night. After he attacked the women, he must have alerted the police himself and claimed that he did it in “self-defense”. He is also said to have expressed that he wanted the police to “shoot him”.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder over the weekend and was later remanded in custody.
The motive for the murder and attempted murder is currently unclear.
– We haven’t had time to do a lot of interrogations with the suspect yet, but at the moment we don’t know why he has done it, says Åsa Nilsson.
Documents seen by Aftonbladet show that the man has previously been charged with, among other things, aggravated assault.
He has also been in custody for serious breach of domestic peace and breach of the Knife Act after he broke into a couple’s home and threatened them with a knife.
