There are quite a few Swedes who play in the NHL.
Some do it better than others.
Now Nicklas Lidström and Mats Sundin reveal which player they think the most.
Nicklas Lidström and Mats Sundin are two of the greatest hockey legends that Sweden has to offer. They both spent most of their careers in the NHL, for 20 and 18 seasons respectively.
Sundin’s career
“Lidas” was a “one club man” away in the USA, and played all 20 seasons in the Detroit Red Wings. Today, the former defenseman is the vice president of Detroit’s hockey operations.
For “Sudden” there were three different clubs during his time in the NHL, but a large majority of the time he played in the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The two Swedes are now icons in their respective former NHL clubs. In 2012, Sundin became the first Swedish late Börje Salming to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Lidström followed in his footsteps and was elected three years later. For the former Detroit player, it was a total of 1,564 games in the NHL, for the Toronto icon 1,346.

Today, it was a long time since Sudden and Lidas set foot on the ice in an NHL game, after their careers ended in 2009 and 2012. But there are a whole bunch of guys who have taken over the mantle as Swedes in the NHL.
And Mats now reveals who he thinks is the best, although it’s hard to name just one.
– If the statistics are to be trusted, then it is Elias Pettersson now that has a fantastic start to the season. William Nylander of course, in Toronto, which is off to a very good start. Then we have a lot of good slopes over there Victor Hedman and several others – Rasmus Dahlin in Buffalo. So it looks good, I think, fun for Swedish hockey, says Sundin to Sportbibeln.

Lidas is on the same track.
– Elias Pettersson is probably the hottest right now, he has started incredibly well. The whole team has started well, so he is probably the one who has been producing. William Nylander has also had a good start to the season, but I would probably rank Elias as number one right now, says Nicklas Lidström.
