Charlotte Baris : The whole political world came together. All or almost all. Massed behind a large banner bearing the logo “for the Republic, against anti-Semitism”, there were Yaël Braun-Pivet and Gérard Larcher, the presidents of the two chambers, at the initiative of the gathering. Elisabeth Borne, the Prime Minister, two former presidents, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande. And representatives of the different monotheistic cults in France.

And then at the very back of the procession of around 100,000 people, members of the National Rally, who came in large numbers. In recent days their presence has been commented on at length. As well as the absence of many rebellious parliamentarians, and that of the President of the Republic, “present in thought”, according to a letter to the French distributed the same morning.

But political quarrels should not overshadow the scourge at the origin of the November 12 march: the outbreak of anti-Semitic acts in France. Since the Hamas attack and Israel’s retaliation a little over a month ago, there have been more than 1,500 anti-Semitic acts in our country. This is more than for the entire year 2022.

This week, through reports and interviews, L’Express makes you think about this explosion of anti-Semitism in France.
