Quality of life: Bolzano in the lead, Crotone bringing up the rear

Quality of life Bolzano in the lead Crotone bringing up

(Finance) – Bolzano, followed by Milan and Bologna, earn the podium of the annual ranking in the 2023 Quality of Life Survey made by ItaliaOggi and Ital Communications, in collaboration with the Sapienza University of Rome, now in its 25th edition. Bringing up the rear, as in 2022, there is Crotone (107th), together with the Sicilian provinces Messina and Caltanissetta (105th and 106th). Furthermore, the research confirms a trend: the rift between Cwithin the North, more performing and resilient, and southern and insular Italy, characterized by persistent vulnerability.

“The ItaliaOggi-Ital Communications survey, coordinated by the Sapienza University of Rome, represents one of the most complete and analytical studies on the quality of life of Italians published in our country. The collaboration at the 25th edition confirms Ital Communications’ desire to provide public opinion, institutions and the Italian media with a complete scenario to orient themselves more effectively in the actions to be undertaken, at a time in which we think it is of fundamental importance to remain alongside citizens and businesses”, he underlines Attilio Lombardi, Founder of Ital Communications.

The study is divided into nine dimensions of analysis: business and work, environment, crime and safety, social security, education and training, population, health system, leisure and tourism, income and wealth, in 14 sub-dimensions and 92 basic indicators. Let’s see them in detail:

Rift between the provinces of the Centre-North and South and the Islands – As mentioned, provinces and metropolitan cities in the Centre-North are the undisputed protagonists of the recovery. As a result, the separation becomes clearer with respect to less developed areas such as the South and Islands, where areas of social and personal hardship are growing. This year the quality of life was good or acceptable in 63 out of 107 provinces. Translated into population terms, it means that 21 million 909 thousand residents (equal to 37.2% of the Italian population) live in areas characterized by a poor or insufficient quality of life, compared to 21 million 789 thousand in the last edition, equal to 36.9% of the population, therefore recording a slight decline compared to 2022.

Business and work – Bolzano and Bologna are placed, like last year, in first and second place respectively, followed by Cuneo, Trento and Belluno. Crotone closes the table. Environment – Bolzano opens the environmental quality ranking, followed by Padua, Mantua and Milan. In the queue Catania. Crime and safety – Ascoli Piceno is in first place in the crime and safety dimension. Followed, in order, by Pordenone, Frosinone and Benevento. The survey confirms that large urban centers remain in the rear positions. Milan closes the ranking in last position.

Social Security – The North East stands in top positions. The province that opens the ranking this year is Prato, followed by Bolzano, Vicenza, Cuneo and Savona. The province in the queue is Messina. Education and training – Bologna ranks first in terms of education and training. Followed by two other provinces in the North-East, Trieste and Trento, and Florence representing central Italy. The province in last position is Crotone.

PopulationBolzano confirms itself in first place in the population ranking, a result that has been repeated for nine years. In the 27 tail positions there is a significant presence of provinces from the North-West and southern Italy and the islands. Oristano closes the ranking. Health system – Isernia opens the ranking of the health system, by territorial distribution of services, preceding Terni, which came first in the last edition. Followed by Ancona, Catanzaro and L’Aquila. Gorizia closes the ranking.

Leisure and tourismSiena confirms itself in first place in the leisure and tourism ranking. Followed by Rimini, Aosta and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. As in past years, Crotone is in last place.

Income and wealth – Milan confirms the first place already obtained in the last three editions. Followed by Trieste, Bologna, Aosta and Monza-Brianza. Closing the ranking, as in the past four editions, is province of Crotone.
