The 41-year-old man was shot to death on an open street in Södertälje.

Police believe it was a botched shooting, that the victim just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

– I sat and watched TV. Then I heard the shots. I immediately understood that there was something wrong, says Åke, who lives near the murder scene.

It was one evening in October last year, when Åke was sitting on the couch watching Postcode Millionaire that he heard how the man was shot. The murder took place a stone’s throw from Åke’s house.

In the Aftonbladet Krim podcast, Åke talks about his experience. It wasn’t the shots that were the worst.

– What remains in my memory to the highest degree are the screams that followed, the screams in agony. They went on for several minutes.

– It remains. They can never be removed. It doesn’t work, says Åke.

Thirteen defendants

Thirteen young men are now charged. Three for murder and the others for helping and protecting them in various ways.

According to the prosecutor, it was an 18-year-old who fired the shots. Afterwards, the shooter fled on an electric bicycle.

The defendants are said to belong to the Salt Forest Network. According to the indictment, the intended target was a man from the competing Ronna network.

The man from the Ronna network is said to have been nearby when the shots fell But instead a 41-year-old man passing by became the victim.

Shot in the face

According to the police, the shot 41-year-old had no connections to the criminal environment.

He was hit by a large number of shots, including in the face. He died at the scene.

All the defendants say they are innocent. The trial in Attunda District Court continues until December 13.
