The Canadian NHL guru names Sweden’s best of all time – and nods Peter Forsberg: “He’s my number one”

So many fantastic players Swedish hockey has produced over the years.
Now NHL guru Chris Johnston is forced to choose his favorite Swede – and it’s not easy.
– I have never thought about that question before, he admits to Sportbibeln.

Swedish hockey should be extremely proud of our great successes in history and what fantastic players we have produced over the years. Not least everyone who became superstars in the world’s best hockey league, the NHL.

Swedes in the NHL

As many as eight Swedes have taken their place in the exclusive and honor-filled Hockey Hall of Fame and had their names immortalized by the NHL. It began with Börje Salmingthen the golden trio Mats Sundin, Nicklas Lidström, Peter Forsberg and then the twins Henrik and Daniel Sedinfollowed by Daniel Alfredsson and most recently Henrik Lundqvist. But who is really the best out of this collection of Swedish legends?

We ask the difficult question to one of the hockey world’s most respected names. Namely the television channel TSN’s own Chris Johnstonwho is considered one of the NHL’s most respected journalists.

Nobbar Foppa

The Canadian is in Sweden for the NHL games at Avicii arena this week and is therefore asked the given question: What does your top three list of Swedes look like?
– It’s difficult, I don’t know what the right answer to that question is… I grew up in Toronto, so Mats Sundin must be on that list. Nicklas Lidström is a given, and the third… Börje Salming, is that an okay answer?, says Johnston to Sportbibeln.
– That sounds funny, because I’ve never thought about that question before. I never usually categorize players according to nationality or that they are Swedish. But Börje must be involved. A great guy, a great human being who left a big mark on Toronto.

It is remarkable that “Foppa”, considered by many to be the very best, does not even reach the top three on the list. But when the NHL guru has to decide on the first place on his Swedish top, it becomes a given name.
– I have to choose Mats Sundin first. But at the same time, will “Henke” enter the top three? He didn’t win the Stanley Cup, per se, says the TSN insider.

Neither did Mats Sundin…?
– It’s true. Damn, I might have lost my way here. But Lidström did it!
