During Thursday, the Israeli army called on residents of parts of southern Gaza to evacuate so that it can continue its offensive, but the question is where they will go.
Israel is proposing to create a safe zone on a strip of beach that makes up only a few percent of Gaza’s surface, prompting protests from aid organizations.
The Israeli flyer mentions four smaller towns in southern Gaza as places of refuge.
“We are starving”
But the IDF has proposed that a small area in southwestern Gaza – the northern parts of the 14 square kilometer Muwasi – be the only protected area in Gaza, and that humanitarian aid be allowed only there.
– We want someone to sympathize with us, and stand up for us, that’s enough now. We starve, diseases spread, we find nothing to eat or drink. The children drink salt water, says Amany Abu Jabal, who moved to the Jabalia refugee camp.
The UN agency UNRWA says it no longer has fuel to collect emergency aid at the border.
And the contact with Gaza has tonight been broken indefinitely, since the telephone company Paltel ran out of fuel and all internet and telephone traffic is thus impossible.
At the same time, the flight from northern Gaza continues.
Reported to have found the hostage – dead
About 11,000 Palestinians have died in Israel’s revenge attacks.
– Yes, these are big numbers, but when we reason, it’s not about numbers. It’s about wiping out evil, and we’ve seen what Hamas can do, and wants to do, says Israeli Major Shraga, who does not want to give his last name.
The Israeli army says it is now fighting street by street in the al-Shati refugee camp, which it describes as the strongest stronghold of terror-labeled Hamas.
The IDF is also said, for the second day, to search the al-Shifa hospital, where tonight they claim to have found one of the hostages – dead.
Reports of great devastation
British Sky News and the BBC are two companies that have been allowed to go into northern Gaza with the Israeli military in the last 24 hours, and they describe enormous devastation.
The UN human rights commissioner said on Thursday that Hamas’ terrorist attacks on civilians as well as Israel’s offensive in Gaza have created a humanitarian and human rights disaster.
– There has been a breakdown of the most basic respect for human rights. The killing of so many civilians cannot be dismissed as indirect harm. The only winner of such a war is likely to be extremism.
