Nathan Fillion is currently playing his biggest role in the crime series The Rookie. However, the star had previously appeared in popular productions such as Castle. Many years ago, the actor also applied for a major role in the vampire fantasy series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Nothing came of it, but the showrunner and Fillion would work together several more times after that.

A Screen Rant article recalls that Fillion in the ’90s auditioned for the role of Angel in Buffy has. As is well known, the part went to David Boreanaz, who played the vampire in 3 seasons of the main series and finally in his own spin-off Angel – Hunters of Darkness.

Buffy creator Joss Whedon is said to have been unaware of Fillion’s casting attempt. The star was at least somewhat put off when he played the evil priest Caleb in season 7.
Fillion’s greatest triumph came with his leading role in Whedon’s sci-fi series Firefly. It only made one season and one movie, but the production has long since become a cult among genre fans.
When does The Rookie continue after season 5?
The 6th season was announced in April 2023. A start date is not yet known. In Germany the first 4 seasons of The Rookie are available on Netflix. You can watch season 5 with a Skys WOW* streaming subscription.
