Some cross-country skiers make big money from the sport.
Others significantly less.
– It feels a bit boring to stand there with a giant check that says 1,000 kroner, says Marcus Grate to SVT.
Skiers at the top of the world in cross-country skiing earn good money from their profession. Stars that Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Lynn Svahn has no problem making a living from his sport. Which is positive as an elite investment can be very expensive altogether.
Svahn’s wish
Last season, Frida Karlsson brought in the most of all cross-country skiers, with her almost 2.2 million kroner. The sprint expert Jonna Sundling earned 1.6 million during the same period, and Ebba Andersson over 1.5 million kroner. The men’s rower who earned the most last season was Calle Halfvarssonwhich brought in 750,000 kroner.

But in the layer below the world’s top, there are tougher economic conditions. Something Linn Svahn criticizes.
– I think the gaps are a little too big in our sport. It’s a very big gap. I hope it evens out. I think you should compete to perform and not have to choose based on what will be the best financially, she says to SVT.
Karlsson’s criticism
Frida Karlsson also thinks that the money should be equalized between the different levels.
– It is the level below the top that is in great need of the prize money, and I think more effort should be put into that. I still believe in working with the width in this way. There aren’t that many people who can make a living from skiing, and for those who are at the top, money rolls in from different directions, says Karlsson to the channel.

In the national competitions, the prize money is lower. The winner of last year’s Swedish premiere in Bruksvallarna received SEK 1,500. Several of the riders reacted to that. This year’s edition of the Swedish Cup will have the same levels of prize money.
– Depending on which competitions it is, we have half a million to a million viewers for some. It feels a bit boring to stand there with a giant check that says 1000 kroner. Should we have the checks then, or can we raise the money instead?, says Marcus Grate about the low sums.
