Epidemic, global warming, teleworking: society is moving… and so are the French. When you begin higher education; when looking for work; when a child adds to the family; When retirement looms, we change locations, sometimes regions, in search of a better quality of life. Year after year, INSEE censuses depict a post-Covid France, confirming the departures from large cities, to the detriment in particular of the Paris region. Which could ultimately make it possible to better rebalance the national territory.
To better understand these phenomena, L’Express highlights in a special report the multiple initiatives launched to better prepare our cities for the challenges of the 21st century. Drawing on data from our partner SixFoisSept, we are also publishing an exceptional survey comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the 118 urban areas with more than 100,000 inhabitants in mainland France.
