The train going from Mwene-Ditu city in Lomani province in the Democratic Republic of Congo to Lubumbashi, the capital of Katanga province, derailed and crashed. Marc Manyonga Ndambo, Infrastructure Director of the National Congo Railways Association (SNCC), said: “In the train accident that occurred, 61 people have now lost their lives and 52 have been injured,” said Marc Manyonga Ndambo.
After the rescue efforts in the accident, the authorities reported that the injured were taken to hospitals, while the officials of the National Railway Company (SNCC) stated that the passengers got on the freight train illegally.
