That the Sweden Democrats gain more influence over climate policy worries the opposition – who see lowered ambitions.
– I would have liked the government to lean forward and present sharp proposals for how to reduce emissions, says Center Party leader Muharrem Demirok.
The government and SD have agreed on a new joint climate policy. Among other things, the settlement means that SD stands behind Sweden’s goal of zero emissions by 2045. In return, SD gets, for example, influence over the upcoming climate action plan and a review of the transport goal in 2030.
Muharrem Demirok thinks there were “many words but little content” at the Tidöpartierna’s press conference with, among others, Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L).
– It is clear that the government does not agree on the climate goals. They agree on the long-term goal of 2045, but disagree on what the 2030 goal actually means. It is worrying and means that the government will push the stage target of 2030 into the environmental target preparation. This means that the ambition is to lower the target, he says, adding that it should be the other way around.
– We want the ambition for 2045 to be raised to reach climate neutrality as early as 2040.
Reduces unity
Demirok thinks that the government should spend more time “presenting solutions” than “pushing the issue in front of them”.
He fears increased division around climate policy.
– Seven out of eight Riksdag parties stand behind the current climate goals. If the ambitions for 2030 are to be lowered and reviewed, the government is doing us all a huge disservice by reducing the agreement that already exists today, he says.

The Green Party spokeswoman Märta Stenevi comments in an SMS to TT.
“Romina Pourmokhtari got SD’s signature on a goal that is 22 years in the future, SD got increased emissions and a scrapped transport goal for 2030,” she writes and continues:
“The Tidö parties say they do not want a shutdown policy and emphasize the importance of electrification while they killed the Swedish electric car market overnight when they removed the electric car bonus.”
