German pro has had a bad year, apparently finds a cool new team for 2024

Elias “Upset” Lipp (23) is probably the best German player in League of Legends, but the 23-year-old has had a tough year. At Fnatic, where he played successfully for a long time, he was displaced by LoL veteran Rekkles. Then Team Vitality went down to the table cellar. Now there’s apparently a cool new project waiting for him.

Who is Upset and why is he considered so strong?

  • Elias “Upset” Lipp played at Schalke for 3 years and was considered a huge talent in the role of bot laner.
  • From 2020 to 2022, Upset was Fnatic’s star player, boasting a controlled, aggressive, yet premature style of play, topping stats across Europe and earning a reputation as one of the best ADCs outside of Asia.
  • Upset is probably the best LoL player in Germany. The other candidate for the title of “best German LoL professional” would probably be BrokenBlade, who plays in G2.
  • But despite all the talent and personal success, Upset’s career fell into a hole in 2023.

Personal problems and Covid ruined Worlds for him twice

What went wrong? Even though Upset is such a great player, things haven’t been going well for him in recent years, especially the Worlds have always been a career low:

At Fnatic he had to leave the Worlds early in 2021 due to personal problems – that almost tore the team apart at the time. The players had fought for a year for a chance to shine at Worlds, but without Upset, the lynchpin of their team, it was all for nothing.

In 2022, the Worlds went terribly again for Fnatic – because of Covid and other problems, the team was never able to train properly and didn’t cut a good figure on the big stage.

Eventually, Upset was replaced by veteran star Rekkles in his third season with Fnatic. This was critically commented on because Rekkles was a big name in 2023, but long past his peak.

Upset ended up joining Perkz on Team Vitality in 2023 and had one hell of a season. The team came last, which no one could really explain. The players talked about how the season didn’t feel real at all.

Upset probably ends up at Karmine Corp

What’s next for him?? Perkz has left Team Vitality, and Upset will also be leaving. According to current reports, he is joining the new French team Karmine Corp (via dotesports). A YouTuber’s project is apparently planning to send a strong team to the LEC in 2024.

In addition to Upset, they are also said to have verbally agreed to work together with trainer Jakob “YamatoCannon” Medbi and the talented jungler Bo.

Upset hasn’t officially confirmed this yet, but it looks like he’ll be staying in France with a team that’s trying to win.

The German seems to be in a good mood anyway. On Twitter he shows a screenshot from Korea, where Knight, the top laner of the Chinese top team JDG, supposedly recognizes him and expressly praises him. Maybe a good sign for the future.

In addition to Upset, the German mid laner “PowerOfEvil” will probably also find a new team for 2023 and will stay in Germany:
