Erik Karlsson, on the other hand, gets the nob despite a record season in the NHL.
The same applies to cross-country stars Jonna Sundling and Ebba Andersson, who were successful in the WC.
World Cup gold and another polishing of his own world record – the pole vaulter Armand Duplantis had an outstanding season in 2023. The same applies Sarah Sjostrom who swam home two golds at the WC last summer and who also broke his own world record.
Ståhl’s double
Now the stars have a chance to take home prizes at the Sports Gala, which announced this year’s nominations. Duplantis and Sjöström are nominated in the categories male and female athletes of the year, respectively, as well as performance of the year.

Also the discus thrower Daniel Ståhlwho despite a brave season last year took home his second WC gold in his career after a great throw in the final round, is twice nominated in the same categories.
Karlsson is nobbed
Notable is that the hockey star Erik Karlsson – who became the first defenseman in 30 years in the NHL to score at least 100 points in a season – is not nominated for any award.

Others who could have been argued for, but who also lack nominations, are Jonna Sundling and Ebba Andersson, who each won two golds during the long-distance WC in Planica. Andersson also received a bronze from the championship.
Cross-country skiing has no nominations for the gala.

Åberg is included
Instead, Sarah Sjöström is fighting for the title of female athlete of the year with Tove Alexanderssonorientation, Isabelle Haakvolleyball and Sandra Näslundski cross.
In the newcomer of the year category there is, among others, the golf star Ludvig Åberg24, who was successful on the US tour and who took a place in Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
The sports gala will be held in the Friends arena on January 22 and will be broadcast live on SVT.
