The LoL Worlds 2023, the world championships in League of Legends, are currently underway. In the semi-finals on Saturday November 11th, two Chinese teams met, BLG against WBG.
These teams played: In today’s game, two Chinese teams Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and Weibo Gaming (WBG) competed against each other to determine which team will advance to the finals, which will take place next week Sunday, November 19th. Previously, BLG won against Korean favorite Gen G., the team with the powerful mid laner Chovy, who set a record. BLG definitely emerged as the favorite.
A week ago, Weibo Gaming (WBG) secured a clear win with 3-0 against NRG. The top planner TheShy from WBG was able to achieve a convincing 3-0 win against Fnatic in the final in 2018, when he was still playing for Invictus Gaming. This was the first time a Chinese team managed to win the LoL Worlds.
WBG wins semi-final 3:2 against BLG
How did the last game go? It turned into an exciting race, but ultimately Weibo Gaming (WBG) secured victory against Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and thus moved into the final. In the decisive game of the semi-finals, the two teams competed against each other with the following set-up:
WBG: Maokai, Kalista, Renata, Ornn, Azir
BLG: K’Sante, Sejuani, Jayce, Caitlyn, Lux
WBG with a strong early game
Already in the early game, WBG’s ADC Light gained a huge advantage with Kalista. BLG On’s supporter was too far ahead and was engaged and killed by Crisp and Light. Shortly afterwards, Kalista (Light) grabbed two more kills when Weiwei came into the bot lane with Maokai to gank and caught and held Lux with his ultimate. Then they went for the tower dive on Caitlyn and got the third kill for Kalista and grabbed the Cloud Drake.

Head to head race
BLG made it back into the game and Caitlyn (Elk) got the shutdown on Kalista, with whom Light was 4/0 at the time. But shortly afterwards at minute 21, BLG lost to WBG in the fight for the Baron, which meant WBG was able to push hard. Around minute 28 the next big team fight was at Baron. BLG Topplaner Bin and K’Sante alone stopped WBG from joining the Baron – especially Maokai – so BLG was able to secure the Baron in the end.
What were the highlights? Around minute 31, the two teams fought for the Earth Dragon. Things were looking good for BLG, but Light was finally able to secure the Dragonsoul for WBG with the Kalista Spears and score a double kill. Only Caitlyn and Lux remained, putting WBG on the verge of ending the game. But they managed to defend the last tower in the base.

The final showdown
Shortly afterwards, the final battle took place in the midlane. The top planer from WBG TheShy with Ornn and Weiwei with Maokai delivered a clean combination of their ultimates, which meant that Lux (On) could be taken out and immediately afterwards Sejuani (XUN). The last three tried to defend the base, but WBG was finally able to end the game and thus win the semi-final.
Today, Weibo Gaming (WBG) secured victory against Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and will advance to the final, which will take place next week on November 19th. A particularly nice detail: Topplaner TheShy is also celebrating his birthday today, and the win against BLG can probably be seen as a special gift for him.
