(Finance) – Trenitaliathe parent company of the Passenger Hub of the FS Group, has been planning an investment for over 1 billion euros for the supply of 40 new Frecciarossa ETR1000. The agreement, signed with Hitachi Rail, includes a commitment of 861 million euros for the purchase of 30 ETR 1000 trains and an option for a further 10 trains with an additional investment of 287 million euros. The first deliveries are expected from April 2026, at a rate of 8-10 vehicles per year. The trains will be produced in Italian factories and will wear the Frecciarossa 1000 livery.
“This investment represents further confirmation of Trenitalia’s commitment to promoting more sustainable and intermodal mobility. The Frecciarossa, protagonist of our most recent history, is also the means through which we look into the future; with a renewed, technologically innovative and increasingly younger fleet, which will allow us to guarantee a more comfortable and environmentally friendly travel experience”, he declared Louis CorradiCEO of Trenitalia.
The Frecciarossa 1000 can reach one speed maximum of 350Km/h and is the first high-speed train in the world to have obtained environmental impact certification (EPD) based on careful Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Every detail, from the light alloys it is made of, to the new electric motors that drive it, has been designed to minimize the energy consumption: up to 30% less than previous generation AV trains and its technology uses braking to recover energy, returning up to 15% of the electricity withdrawn to the electricity grid and reducing consumption due to friction of the braking elements.
Attention towards recyclability of the materials of which the Frecciarossa 1000 is made has been maximum since the design phase, allowing it to have a limited environmental impact even beyond the end of its life cycle, as the materials used for its construction are 94% recyclable. Frecciarossa, symbol of Italian innovation ed excellence of Made in Italy, reaches 120 destinations in Italy with over 250 daily connections, and also runs on the tracks of Spain and France.
