The family left Enskede – building a new house in the village of Granån: “We want to live, farm and die here”

The number of building permits in the middle areas has increased steadily over the past ten years according to figures from the municipality of Robertsfors. Expensive costs for new construction in Umeå and Skellefteå have meant that more and more people are looking for the areas between the cities along the coast.

First construction in 40 years

It is mainly by the sea and in the communities that it is built, out in the villages, however, they are not as common. The new building in Granån that Lovisa Johansson and Anton Odh and their three children are now completing is the first in the village in almost 40 years.

– It feels great fun. We also notice among our friends who still live in Stockholm that more and more people want to go out into the countryside, says Anton Odh, who comes from Skövde.

Used to commuting

He and Lovisa have got a job in Skellefteå and now have to commute seven miles every day instead, something they are used to from their time in the capital.

– We sold in Stockholm at a good profit and can put it into the new building, and we are aware that it can be difficult to recoup one’s investment in a place like this. But that matters less, says Lovisa Johansson.
