The Söderhamn family’s home was cordoned off again earlier this week.

The police now have a theory about what could be behind the family’s illness, according to information to Aftonbladet.

– There is an idea of what could be the cause, says prosecutor Christer Sammens.

In mid-October, the family in Söderhamn sought care with acute stomach symptoms. The mother, father and two small children were hospitalized, but the four-year-old girl’s life could not be saved.

According to the father, they called SOS several times. The ambulance came to the home on two occasions, but the family was told to take fluid replacement and Alvedon. Only the third time they were taken to the hospital in Hudiksvall.

Re-examined

At the beginning of the investigation, the family’s home was cordoned off and searched by the National Bomb Squad in protective suits. This week the home was blocked off again.

With better equipment, which can track more substances, the investigators hoped to be able to find, among other things, tissue and blood samples on the return visit.

– A more detailed investigation was carried out, says prosecutor Christer Sammens.

Initially, the incident was investigated as causing the death of another and causing bodily harm. But early in the preliminary investigation, the crime classification was changed to murder.

“Don’t float in the blue”

The Public Health Agency, the Poison Information Center and the Total Defense Research Institute, FOI, have all been connected to the investigation. What caused the illness has long been a mystery to investigators.

– For the time being, you can say that it is a mystery, said Christer Sammens a week after the death.

But now the police have a theory about what may have happened to the family, according to Aftonbladet’s informant. The new investigation in the residence is said to have been specifically aimed at searching for clues that could confirm the theory.

Prosecutor Christer Sammens does not want to elaborate on what the suspicions are about.

– It is clear that there are theories, but it is not something we go out with. We need to be able to determine and see what it is that caused it all. But there is an idea of what could be the cause. We are not completely floating in the blue, he says.

Hope to find the cause

Christer Sammens and the investigators are now waiting for new test results. He believes that they should be able to provide answers to what caused the illness.

– I hope we will be able to arrive at that. I’m not a chemist or a medicine man, but I think it would be strange if we didn’t.
