A seven-year-old girl was close to death after being poisoned with vinegar. Now the parents are charged with, among other things, extremely serious assault and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
– The girl has been subjected to serious crimes, says prosecutor Ingegerd Jigin.
Prosecutors at the Lund District Court on Thursday filed charges against a 42-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, who had previously been in custody suspected of having poisoned their seven-year-old daughter with vinegar.
“Both defendants have failed to intervene to protect her or immediately ensure that she received medical care for her injuries,” writes the Prosecutor’s Office in a press release.
Seven charges
The couple is charged with a total of seven counts, including extremely serious assault, illegal detention and serious breach of peace of their daughter.
– The girl has been subjected to serious crimes. It has been a very extensive investigation, and based on what has emerged from, among other things, technical and medical examinations and from what the girl herself has been able to tell, I believe that the preliminary investigation shows that it is the defendants who have subjected the girl to these acts, says the prosecutor, Ingegerd Jigin.
The girl is doing well under the circumstances and is now going to school, according to prosecutor Ingegerd Jigin.
It was on the night of Christmas Eve 2022 that the girl was taken to the hospital in Lund with life-threatening injuries, after ingesting vinegar. In February of the same year, the parents were arrested on suspicion of having poisoned their daughter, and have since been detained.
