Scabies is a skin disease caused by a microscopic parasite called Sarcoptes scabiei that lives on human skin. Scabies disease can easily spread through contact and can pass from an infected person to a healthy person.
It was announced that there was an increase in scabies cases, which are more common in autumn and winter months. Sercan Ahmet Uluç, Secretary General of the Istanbul Family Physicians Association, made frightening statements by saying, “There is not a day without a scabies case.”
The expert said that the disease is now more resistant; ‘There is no day without a scabies case. Let me say this for Istanbul. Sometimes there are 3 per day, sometimes there are 5.’ said.

Emphasizing that most patients cannot recover for months, Uluç said, ‘Normally, there is a standard treatment we give. There are lotions. There are shampoos. Unfortunately, we can’t get any answers from them anymore. We now want to give the strongest treatment directly. The medicine came to our country, but it is not within the scope of SSI payment. We are talking about a drug costing around 1000 TL. When there is a large family, this causes serious costs. Patients also say: ‘Sir, let’s try the solution. If we have to, we’ll switch to it.’ That’s why it’s a long process. It takes a month or two. This increases the spread incredibly. “We have a patient whom I have been treating for about 2 years,” he said.
‘IT IS ALSO COMMON IN NEWBORN BABIES’
Speaking to NTV, Sercan Ahmet Uluç said that scabies is also common in newborn babies and made the following warning: “The baby is a creature that is held and loved. This prepares a great ground for the transmission of the scabies parasite. Of course, treatment is more difficult in babies. Solution “We cannot give it, the risk of allergy is very high.”
