“Players want new content every day, every hour”

Blizzard President Mike Ybarra is doing everything he can to meet players’ demands. The quality of the games should not be neglected. In order to be able to achieve such a performance, however, financing from these same players is required.

What do players demand? Mike Ybarra explained in an interview with The Verge that players would want new content daily or even hourly. The fans have no patience and that’s why Blizzard wants to try to meet these demands while maintaining a consistently high level of quality:

The players have no patience. They want something new every day, every hour. We’re trying to respond while keeping the Blizzard quality bar high.

Although these are absurdly high requirements, Blizzard wants to respond to this player request. But it would require a large team of developers to implement the requirements. To cope with this, the games would need the right monetization.

Blizzard wouldn’t shy away from launching new IPs. Ybarra is grateful for every idea, be it a title with a playing time of 4 hours or a long-term project with a playing time of 400 hours. The main thing is that when a player invests their money in Blizzard, they should feel good about it.

Blizzard wants to focus on this content in the future

What financing projects will there be in the future? Both World of Warcraft and Diablo 4, Blizzard’s hobbyhorses, are to be provided with new expansions. Blizzard’s focus continues to be on live service games.

In addition to the “Worldsoul Saga”, which opens a new chapter in WoW with a total of 3 expansions, Diablo 4 will be heading into the wild nature next year. The paid DLC is planned for the end of 2024 and will be presented in more detail in summer 2024. In keeping with the nature theme, there is a new class in the “Vessel of Hatred” expansion, which is said to be the “Spiritborn”.

Ybarra does not reveal what the survival game, which Blizzard announced in January 2022, looks like. The game should be presented when it is “ready to show itself”. It is not yet clear what the monetization will look like.

But Blizzard has other ideas to ensure “proper monetization” so that players are constantly provided with new content. The mobile area is a rapidly growing area at Blizzard that could probably contribute a lot to financing.

For example, Diablo Immortal brought in $525 million in its first year alone. Germany contributed a share of 3.3 percent. Another driving force that should ensure at least as much success is Warcraft Rumble.

The mobile game has been long-awaited and has been live for a few days. A release on PC or console is not planned yet, it is purely a mobile game.

We can therefore be curious to see which other IPs we will see as a mobile version. If you are currently busy with Warcraft Rumble, you shouldn’t miss the 3 beginner tips from MeinMMO:
