The Nordic pet chain Musti Group now announces that the probable cause of dogs becoming ill from their food has been found. It is about potato flakes with too high levels of toxic glycoalkaloids.
33 tons of Adult GF Fish brand dog food from the brand SMAAK has been recalled by Musti Group since the sick dogs were discovered. The dog food has been reported to cause various forms of serious symptoms and the products have also been exported to Sweden. However, no cases have been reported here.
Cat food is also being recalled
Cat food from the brand SMAAK Adult Grain-Free Chicken for Cats is also being recalled.
Glycoalkaloids can form in potatoes if exposed to light, and even people who eat too much of the substance can become ill.
“I apologize to our customers, especially the pet owners whose animals have been affected by these products. This is not acceptable. This kind of events should never happen,” writes Musti CEO David Rönnberg in a press release.
