UTRECHT – Minima should receive much more money because of the increased energy prices. The amount, which is now 200 euros, must be increased to 1000 euros per household. That is what the four major cities want.
Utrecht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague have jointly sent a letter about this to the House of Representatives today. The extra contribution should “prevent people from falling through the ice”, let the major cities know. They say the existing arrangements are not enough.
The four cities want Minister Rob Jetten (Climate and Energy) to agree with energy companies “that households will not be closed this year due to payment arrears.”
Temporary measure Utrecht
Since the end of January, Utrecht has reimbursed the difference between the old and new energy bill for distressing cases. For example, among Utrecht residents whose energy costs have increased by more than 200 euros or who fall outside the target group of people entitled to social assistance. This temporary measure will be extended until August 1.
