The Russian company says that it noticed the breakage of

The Baltic Connector gas pipeline running between Finland and Estonia was damaged a day after the date announced by the Russian company.

The Russian telecommunications company Rostelecom says that the breakage of the telecommunications cable running from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad was already detected on October 7.

According to the company, the communication cable broke less than 30 kilometers from the Balticconnector gas pipeline running between Finland and Estonia, which was damaged the next day.

– The damage to Rostelecom’s optical fiber cable located in the Baltic Sea was recorded on October 7 at 23:30 (Moscow time). The cable damage is located 28 kilometers from the part of the Baltic Connector gas pipeline that was damaged on October 8, Rostelecom said in a statement.

In its statement, Rostelecom did not comment on what caused the communication cable to break.

However, the company stated that the cable breakage is geographically and temporally close to the Baltic Connector gas pipeline incident.

Rostelecom informed Finland about the breakage of the communication cable on October 12.

The telecommunications cable, which is about a thousand kilometers long, partly passes through the economic zones of Finland and Sweden. The Coast Guard of the Gulf of Finland is supervising the repair work of the Russian ship that started yesterday in Finland’s exclusive economic zone, says the Deputy Commander of the Coast Guard Mikko Hirvi for STT.

The Coast Guard has published a picture of the area on X (formerly Twitter).
