With Total Recall, Paul Verhoeven delivered a powerful mix of science fiction and action with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. In 1990 the film conquered the big screen for the first time. He has now become one absolute genre classic ascended. The same cannot be said about the remake.
22 years after the original, director Len Wiseman brought a new edition of the material to the cinema. With Underworld, Wiseman has one of the defining action series of the 2000s created. However, little of this can be found in his Total Recall. Even the big names on the poster couldn’t save the sci-fi blockbuster.
Disappointing sci-fi remake with Colin Farrell: The new Total Recall doesn’t come close to the original
The story of Total Recall takes you to the year 2084. After a chemical weapons war, much of the earth has become uninhabitable. The survivors can be found in the colony United Federation of Britain again, so did the worker Douglas Quaid. He dreams of vacationing on Mars. However, he cannot afford it.

The Company Rekall Incorporated tempts you with an exciting offer: the memory of the perfect holiday. Quaid agrees – and shortly afterwards his life is turned upside down. The memory he has implanted in his mind seems more and more true by the second. Before he knows it, he finds himself caught up in a huge conspiracy.
Colin Farrell steps into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shoes in the Total Recall remake. Although he shone ten years earlier in the great science fiction film Minority Report, his Douglas Qauid turns out to be weak figure. Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston also remain pale in the supporting roles.
Both versions of Total Recall focus on history Memories in bulk by sci-fi mastermind Philip K. Dick. Verhoeven pulls one memorable image after another from the original. Wiseman, on the other hand, delivers interchangeable blockbuster bombast that can’t keep up with the pithy first film for a second.
