Dick Axelsson’s great jealousy of Joel Lundqvist – now the SHL profile appeals to everyone: “If I’m shitty”

Dick Axelsson has put the skates on the shelf.
The former forward now feels ready for new assignments.
– If I’m shitty, I can just leave and never come back, says Axelsson to Sportbibeln.

It was in May 2021 that Dick Axelsson first announced that he is ending his professional hockey career. Six months later, however, there was a comeback for the forward in Djurgården, where he remained over the 2021/2022 season.

Axelsson’s confession

In the same year, Dick played a few games for the hamburger chain Brödernas team in division 4. He continued to do so in the 2022/2023 season as well, at the same time that the team was merged with Väsby IK HK in connection with a collaboration between the club and Brödernas. Then instead it was Hockeyetta that was waiting. But there was only one match for Axelsson, who was forced to end his hockey career with problems in his knees. For good this time.

During a period in Djurgården, Axelsson also had an extra job at Sportbladet as a hockey expert and punter. But he doesn’t have that left.
– I had to leave that assignment, unfortunately I say, when I took the chance and played with Väsby. So unfortunately I don’t do anything there either, but I’m completely out of work right now. Which starts to eat away at the psyche!, says Dick.

Notice on Lundqvist

The Stockholmer still has an interest in working as a hockey expert in some medium. Some kind of leadership role in the future is also on the radar.
– The idea has absolutely struck me… It’s hard to know what you want to do, after doing the same thing for 15-16 years. But absolutely, the idea is to work with the media, and also maybe become involved or involved in some form of hockey.

Are you jealous of Joel Lundqvist who got a TV job right after his playing career?
– Yes, absolutely!, says Axelsson with a sarcastic tone in his voice, and then continues:
– No, but it is clear that something like that would be very fun. Then I’ve been very critical and saw people wildly. So maybe it’s not really my forum with those serious bets. But it’s never too late to change your mind, so to speak.

“Never come back”

Time for someone to pick up the phone and give you a signal now.
– Yes exactly. And if I’m shitty, I can just leave and never come back.
– I still have the same number, so some bastard might get sick, so you have to jump in, concludes Dick Axelsson.
