The annual Handbags for Hospice fundraiser set a record this year.

The event, at Chatham’s Everest Convention Center last month, brought in $32,000 to support families cared for at Chatham-Kent Hospice.

Throughout the night, guests played games of bingo where the prize for each round was a designer handbag from brand names including Michael Kors, Coach and Kate Spade.
An additional 35 prizes generously donated by local businesses were raffle off, in addition to the platinum purse drawn for a Michael Kors weekender and accessories.
“We are so grateful to the planning committee and the community for their support of Handbags for Hospice,” Jodi Maroney, the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation’s executive director, said in a release. “A special thank you to those who sponsored handbags in memory of their loved ones.
“This was the fifth year for the event and combined it has raised over $121,000 for families facing end of life,” she added. “These funds will be used to provide our hospice residents and their families with compassionate care and our community with grievance and bereavement support at no cost to them.”
