During Saturday morning, several people called SOS Alarm in Örebro County and reported that they smelled like “cat piss”, ammonia or sulphur.
– It smells something chemical, says Staffan Roslund who lives in Hällabrottet to P4 Örebro.
The reason is, according to meteorologist Linus Karlsson, a weather phenomenon called inversion. This means that odors from, among other things, smelly industries remain at ground level and are not mixed up higher in the air.
– It becomes like a lid, which means that the smell does not mix again but remains quite intense, says Karlsson to P4 Örebro.
