Vessel of Hatred brings new class

Blizzard has a new expansion at BlizzCon 2023 Diablo 4 announced. “Vessel of Hatred” is scheduled to be released at the end of 2024. There will also be a new class coming to Diablo 4 that has never been seen in Diablo before.

This was announced:

  • Blizzard’s own team is working on the first expansion of Diablo 4; it is still early in development. The expansion is scheduled to be released at the end of 2024.
  • The expansion will bring a new class not yet seen in Diablo. So neither paladin nor warlock.
  • More information about Diablo 4: “Vessel of Hatred” will appear in the next few days. A larger performance is planned for summer 2024.
  • 47-second trailer hints at Mephisto

You can already guess that: The voice of the demon Mephisto can be heard in a 47-second trailer for the expansion.

In Diablo, Mephisto is the “Lord of Hate,” one of the three Great Evils and the father of Lilith.

Leak before BlizzCon gave hints about new class: Spiritborn

Did you see that coming? Yes, evidence was found in a data mining leak in October 2023 that an expansion would be coming to Diablo 4. They also expected 2024.

Because parts of the leak have now turned out to be true, some in the Diablo 4 community assume that the rest of the leak is also true (via reddit).

The leak also assumed that the new class would be called “Spiritborn”: a class with a “nature” theme. The nature theme was a dataminer conclusion based on reading the word “thorns.”

In addition, a mercenary system, runes and rune words are coming to Diablo 4.

Expansion spreads Diablo 2 jungle vibes

These are the first reactions to the trailer: The trailer has so far received rather cynical comments on YouTube because Blizzard has released so little information.

A user compares the trailer for “Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred” with that for The Elder Scrolls 6 – a pure announcement with the promise of showing more at some point.

But there are also voices who are already looking forward to the content. These joyful voices feel like they are seeing some kind of “Mayan expansion” and are excited to visit the city of Kuraast again. Players already know her from Act III of Diablo 2.

We could find out in the next few days whether the leak is true and the class will really be called Spiritborn:
