At least 37 people have died in an earthquake in Nepal, local authorities say. tens are reported injured and the death toll is feared to rise.

The quake occurred at midnight, local time, when many people were sleeping. It had a magnitude of 5.6, at a depth of 18 kilometers, roughly 40 miles northeast of the capital, Kathmandu.

Indian media reports that the quake was felt in the capital, Delhi.
