Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is the next European leader to have been defrauded by the notorious Vovan and Lexus scams, Italian media reports.
The Russian duo pretended to be “an African politician”, who, among other things, asked Meloni about the war in Ukraine. The Italian leader then replied, among other things, that “there is fatigue” over the war.
– The time is approaching when everyone will understand that we have to find a way out, she says according to recordings published on the internet.
The Italian government office confirms that Meloni was “misled” during the conversation, which took place on September 18, in the middle of a period that, according to the office, was “intense” for Meloni.
Vladimir “Vovan” Kuznetsov and Aleksej “Lexus” Stolyarov have previously deceived top politicians such as Germany’s former Chancellor Angela Merkel, France’s President Emmanuel Macron and then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with similar calls.
