Johannes Hösflot Kläbo may miss the World Cup.
But Calle Halfvarsson doesn’t think so.
– It is only magnified in the media, he tells Radiosporten.
The Norwegian Johannes Hösflot Kläbo did as so many times before an incredible season last year. The 27-year-old won five WC medals, of which three gold and two silver. In the World Cup, there were a total of 21 victories. Kläbo is seen as the best cross-country skier in the world and one of the best Norwegians of all time.
Kläbo’s chaos
After last season, Kläbo decided to stand outside the national team, and during the rest of the year has been training with his own business.
– With my departure, the ski association has opportunities to reduce its costs and instead spend money on other athletes. I have several friends in the national team who I think have been treated badly in this selection process, Kläbo said in a press release last spring regarding why he chose his own venture.

Now that decision from last spring may pay off. Kläbo still has not reached an agreement with the Norwegian Skiing Association. An agreement that is required for the Norwegian to participate in the World Cup. Norwegian media have later reported that the parties are approaching an agreement, but nothing has yet been signed with less than a month to go until the World Cup premiere.
Halfvarsson’s sawing
Kläbo’s being or not being in the World Cup has been a big sports talk in Norway in recent months. A hype like the Swedish cross-country skiing star Calle Halfvarsson think has been exaggerated.
– At no time in this process, when I have read this about Kläbo and the national team, have I been the least bit worried that he would not go to the World Cup, he tells Radiosporten.

The 34-year-old definitely believes that Kläbo will be on the starting line with him when the World Cup starts.
– This is only magnified in the media, I am completely convinced. Then it is clear that they have negotiated here and there. But that they wouldn’t come to any result, and that he would be left to go to the World Cup, that’s as big a chance as it will start raining pigs outside, says Halfvarsson.
