The idea is simple: buy a used truck, fill it with what is needed, go down to Ukraine, leave the car there and go back. This is how the Blågula Bilen initiative works, which was started by Take Aanstoot in April 2022, and has grown throughout the country.
Just over a year ago, Minna Wretemark joined as a volunteer.
– I saw what happened in Ukraine and felt that I wanted to do more than watch, and then the Blue and Yellow Car was something that was close at hand, she says.
What made you start volunteering?
– What is happening is terrible and it affects many people. It feels very positive to be able to do something. Even if it’s a small part you do, it’s better than just watching.
The Blue and Yellow Car has become much bigger in 2023. The number of donors is increasing all the time, both private individuals and companies. In October 2023, the business has increased by 55 percent in donations compared to the same month last year, says the volunteer who works with finances.
– It’s great fun to watch and we believe that many people see that we are efficient and that the money will benefit Ukraine.
Today, Blågula Bilen has approximately 160 volunteers. The volunteers go with cars a couple of times a month. During October, 31 vehicles were delivered, and during 2023 approximately 300 vehicles have been delivered – an average of one vehicle per day.
