60 players team up to catch Crypto-Lugia, but get into trouble in traffic

Pokémon GO requires players to venture out of the house and catch Pokémon, hatch eggs, and conquer gyms as they walk. But for 60 players from Canada, this led to a dangerous situation that made it clear that attention should also be on road traffic.

What kind of dangerous situation was that? In the reddit forum, a player reports that he and 59 other people formed a group to catch Crypto-Lugia in a raid. They crossed a street where there was no zebra crossing or traffic lights to regulate traffic.

As the group wanted to cross the street, a car drove up. The driver yelled for the group to get out of the way because they were driving on the road.

When some players tried to let the lady pass, one player stood on the street and acted as a “zebra crossing” – he safely waved the group over and stopped the traffic. We’ll spare you the subsequent insults between the driver and the player.

In another situation, a car turned right and missed a red light. The player gave the car another slap on the tailgate to signal that that wasn’t okay. The user left out his story as to whether other members of the group were endangered.

Luckily no one was injured in the incidents, but the situations are a reminder that your eyes shouldn’t just be glued to the screen when playing Pokémon GO.

Crypto-Lugia is a great addition to your Pokémon team. But there are other Pokémon that would make a good addition to your team:

What do other players say about this? In the comments, many users think that the player acted wrongly. The group should have simply let the driver pass so that the situation would have de-escalated. It would have taken little time to stop briefly and let them pass.

Some users sound anything but enthusiastic about the story (via reddit.com):

  • Wigberht_Eadweard: “I understand that you are legally in the right, but it is not unusual to let a single car through when there is a fairly constant flow of pedestrians.”
  • Runescaper4good: “That doesn’t make you sound as cool as you think… people have already stopped to wait 5 seconds to let the woman through and you went out and escalated things”
  • skullsquid1999: “Sounds like you were quite a jerk.”
  • The situation is reminiscent of the closed bridge in Düsseldorf. When Pokémon GO was released, a popular bridge was closed to car traffic so that players could venture onto the road safely. Several toilets and rubbish bins have even been set up so that the players are well prepared.

Such actions protect careless players from falling onto the road and, in the worst case, from being hit by a car. So keep your eyes open when you play Pokémon GO or another AR game in traffic.
