Joel Lundqvist revealed his tricks from his career on TV4.
And revealed, among other things, how he often cheated.

Joel Lundqvist ended his long and unparalleled career last year, but he didn’t have to be out of work for very long. Joel Lundqvist has chosen to follow in his brother Henke’s footsteps, and now works as an expert for TV4. Henrik Lundqvist has also stepped into television studios after his career ended, and now sits and analyzes the NHL on the same panel as, among others, Wayne Gretzky.
Success as an expert
For Joel Lundqvist, however, being an expert in SHL hockey is important, and so far he has received extremely positive reactions from the viewers. Few in Swedish ice hockey have as much experience from playing in the league as Lundqvist, and he is good at conveying that also in front of the camera, and in a studio.
During his career, it got a lot of attention when Dick Axelsson told a referee during a playoff game that “Joel rules in Swedish hockey”. That expression stuck, and during Lundqvsti’s last year in the SHL, the expression was often thrown around him, if, for example, he got sent off during matches.
Revealing the cheat
During the weekend’s SHL broadcasts on TV4, he heard it again, and this time from an unexpected direction. Lundqvist and fellow expert Johan Tornberg discussed the best way to win draws, and with a club in hand each, the duo demonstrated and discussed strategies. Joel Lundqvist then revealed a foul play he often used, when he gained more strength in his arms by going down on one knee, and was thus able to win drawings.
Johan Tornberg then pointed out that it is not allowed to kneel, to which Joel replied:
– You must not go down on purpose, but I had bad balance many times. There is a difference.
Then the presenter icon Lasse Granqvist felt compelled to break in. Before handing over, he stepped in and said exactly what everyone was thinking:
– How was it now? Who decides in Swedish hockey?, he said with a smile on his face.
